A brave love story of sacrifice and choosing the path towards inner peace and freedom …

A Rainbow Without Yellow is a love story that didn’t reach its supposed destination, but over time, the characters found inner peace and freedom from the painful end and the intense climax you will read through and might have various opinions.

It was by choice and not compulsion that Anaya prioritised her inner peace. She is the main protagonist of her story, yet she had to go through a lot of suffering within this love triangle that forms unintentionally. The pressure from society, their remarks over her love interest, the expectations from friends and the non-acceptance of her lover by her parents made her go through a huge turmoil.

I will quote here the writer herself:

The story never began

I see a glimpse of words we shared

Hiding in the crab holes-

Partly visible, partly buried under sand.

I shall wait to join the broken pieces

Of a jumbled tale- end, middle, beginning-

Yes, the story does have a beautiful start of Anaya falling in love, but something changes in between, a huge dynamic in her relationship with her beloved that doesn’t lead to the desired end. She has a peaceful life, though, one she chose by leaving her first love behind, but he breathes silently in her once-broken but now-mended heart, in her inner thoughts, in her entire existence as someone else’s wife now.

But what if she could have fought a little, endured a little more? The story would have had a different ending. What if she had the courage to be more expressive than being a girl who submitted to the expectations of others? She would have found newer, perhaps better chapters in her life. These were the questions that remained like an aftertaste on my tongue after reading this unfinished love story. Doesn’t true love call for a fight, as they say, ‘everything is fair in love and war’? This is my opinion only; you might have another viewpoint, so read the book to know more.

But what a brilliant writer Nibedita is! She has created a world of silence among lovers, the quietude they have made part of their lives, the love that remains somewhere in one corner of the heart like a soft, unsaid prayer, but rarely expressed. I was deeply touched by the way of writing, the command of the language, and the precise sentences. The book will read like a magic, and the climax, whether you choose to agree with it and the ending, whether you would feel it would have been different, you would surely love the way the story moves. It's like a poem that is flowing over the pages.

The amalgamation of the varied hues of the rainbow, while depicting the emotions of the characters, is another marvel that the writer has done. I couldn’t fathom the fact that how deep and silent, yet painful, an unfulfilled love could be, it's like finding that rainbow that you might not find till the end, because you are already walking within its colours, carrying those varied emotions.

To sum up, I quote the writer again, this will work as a gist for the entire story-

To love once is courage

To unlove is another kind-

The quiet kind

And carries its own lantern

And walks you home.
